AI Transparency
Making the case for responsible use of artificial intelligence in politics, clear disclosure of AI-generated campaign content and protections against deceptive synthetic media.

The issue
The issue
AI Transparency is about ensuring that artificial intelligence strengthens democracy rather than undermines it. As AI tools become more sophisticated and accessible, they are beginning to play an increasingly important role in political communication, campaigning and public debate.
Artificial intelligence offers significant opportunities. It can help political parties, elected representatives and campaigners communicate more effectively, engage wider audiences and improve access to information. Used responsibly, AI can support democratic participation and help make politics more accessible.
However, these opportunities also bring risks.
The rapid growth of AI-generated content means it is becoming increasingly difficult for voters to distinguish between authentic and synthetic material. Images, videos and audio recordings can now be created or manipulated in ways that appear highly convincing. As these technologies continue to improve, there is a growing risk that voters may be exposed to misleading or entirely fabricated content during election campaigns and political debates.
Democracy depends on trust. People need confidence that the information they receive is genuine, that political messages are transparent about how they were created, and that elections are contested fairly. If voters cannot distinguish fact from fabrication, confidence in democratic institutions and political processes is weakened.
This campaign supports the introduction of clear transparency standards for the use of artificial intelligence in politics. We believe voters should know when political content has been generated, significantly modified or influenced by AI. Disclosure should become a normal and expected part of political campaigning, allowing citizens to make informed judgements about the information they consume.
We also support stronger protections against malicious deepfakes and synthetic media designed to deceive voters. Technology should not be used to impersonate candidates, misrepresent public figures or manipulate democratic outcomes through deliberate misinformation.
Alongside regulation, we believe political parties, campaign organisations and elected representatives should adopt clear AI policies and codes of best practice. These should set out how artificial intelligence is used, what safeguards are in place and how organisations will ensure transparency and accountability. It also confirms all content generated by AI is carefully reviewed, edited and signed off before publication.
AI Transparency is not about opposing technology. It is about ensuring innovation develops alongside trust, openness and democratic integrity.
Simply put, we believe voters have a right to know what is real, what is artificial, and how technology is being used to influence political debate.
